ISLAMABAD - Farhan Zaman shocked Nasir Iqbal 3-2 in the 7th DG Rangers (Sindh) Open Squash Championship semifinal at Sindh Rangers Jahangir Khan Squash Complex Karachi on Friday.
Nasir was firm favourite to win this encounter and lived upto the expectations in the first two games and completely dominated Farhan winning 11/2. But Farhan bounced back in style to take the next three games in a row 11/6, 11/3 and 11/9 in 58 minutes to book a place in the final. He would face Tayyab Aslam for the title, who against Sheikh Saquib 3-2 after a marathon battle of 103 minutes.
Tayyab won the first game 13/11. Saquib leveled the score by winning second 11-7. Tayyab again took lead in by winning third game 11/9 but again lost the fourth game 11/13. In the final set, Tayyab prevailed the threat from Saquib, who had also defeated Asian champion Aamir Atlas Khan in the quarterfinals, and won the decider 11-9. In the ladies semifinals top seed Samar Anjum beat Rushna Mehboob 3-1 in 45 minutes. Samamr won 9/11, 11/6, 11/5 and 11/3 to book a place in the final against Muqaddas Ashraf, who outplayed Zoya Khalid 3-0 in 34 minutes. Muqaddas won the match 11/8, 14/12 and 11/8.
