LAHORE The Lahore Region Women Cricket organized a reception at Kinnaird College in honour of Ms Attiya Mumtaz, former cricketer and first captain Lahore Region (1980-81),who was awarded a special prize by ICC in recognition of her services to the game. PCB chairman Ijaz Butt presented the award to Ms Attiya recently in recognition as the only lady in Pakistan for making outstanding services to women cricket. She received the award and medal on March 23. Ms Attiya Mumtaz, who is director sports Home Economics College was the captain of the college cricket team from 1979 to 1982 and won first two Women National Championships as captain in 1981-82. The finals was played at Lahore College for Women and she achieved the bowling figures of 8-2-24-5 and scored 22 not out to be declared the women of the match. She also played the first ever women match at the Gaddafi Stadium in 1980. As Director Sports Home Economics College, she organised cricket nets for females for six years after that women cricket was banned by Gen Zia-ul-Haq. Now she is President Lahore Region Women Association.
