LAHORE Guard Rice overwhelmed with a comprehensive margin the combined team Saama Tv/Newage/Seven in the final to clinch the Cool and Cool Polo Cup here at the Lahore Polo Clubs Main Aibak Ground on Sunday. Though Raja Samiullah and Taimur Ali Malik shared four goals each in the Guard Rices 10 goals to three-and-a-half goals win yet Raja Temur Nadeem and Sameer Habib Oberoi made the winning quartet much too strong to handle for Saama Tv/Newage/Seven. From the losing side, Hissam Ali Hyder got all the three goals it managed in the first two chukkers otherwise the whole of the proceeding was dominated by Guard Rice. Another interesting thing to note in the match was that apart from the two 30-yard hits got by either teams all the goals were achieved through field efforts. However, nine of the 13 goals were solo ride of the players. Hissam was the lone scorer of the opening chukker and he scored another two in the second quarter while Guard Rice got three in the second, the same number in the third and four in the last chukker. In the subsidiary final, Monnoo Polo subdued NICL by five goals to two and a half with Omar Asjad Malhi making the win possible for in the slow-paced match. Omar got three goals while Ahmed Zubair converted two while from the losing team Shah Shamyl Alam was the lone scorer who got both the goals for his team. The final was supervised by Saqib Khan Khakwani and Hassan Ali Farrukh. Federal Minister for Commerce Makhdoom Amin Fahim was the chief guest of the final and gave away the prizes to the winners. President Lahore Polo Club Irfan Ali Hyder was also present on the occasion.
