Jansher shows glimpses of his past

LAHORE - Former world squash champion Jansher Khan shown glimpses of his glittering past by playing two back-to-back exhibition matches here at the PSA Complex on Saturday. Jansher, who ruled the squash world for over a decade by winning all the major titles at stake, was in good physical shape and demonstrated his usual punch and sting in his attacking game. In the first match, he defeated Sheraz Saleem, a member of Punjab Squash Associations executive committee who is a regular player and then played against Punjabs promising player Ali Bokhari. Janshers presence at the courts drew a big audience who were delighted to see him in action. As Sheraz offered some resistance to Jansher with some good passing shots, young Ali could not match the skills of a master of the game. I played these matches just to demonstrate some finer points of the game to encourage upcoming players and to motivate youth to squash, said Jansher. I think such matches in a way enhance the confidence of young players who really feel motivated after playing against a former world champion, he said. Squash has given me a lot and it is the best way to pay back to my country and in this regard my services are always available to the Punjab Squash Association for the grooming of young players, he added. Sheraz said he was honoured to play with Jansher and he would remember this match in his life while Ali said he learnt a lot from this match and he would do his best to lift the level of his game in future.
