ISLAMABAD - Farhan Zaman overcame the challenge of Tayyab Aslam by winning the final of the 7th DG Rangers (Sindh) Open Squash Championship – 2013 3-2 on Saturday. In the female category number three seed Muqaddas Ashraf upsets top seed Samar Anjum to claim the title after an hour’s battle.
Fourth seed Farhan was firm favourite to clinch the title as he had to face the youngster Tayyab. Farhan lost the first game 7-11 but he bounced back to take 2-1 lead by winning next two games on trot 11-7, 11-6. But Tayyab was not in a mood to go down without a fight as he won the fourth game 11-8. Farhan used his international experience to win the fifth game 11-7 and clinching the first ever major title of his career in 67 minutes. In the female final, Muqaddas upset top seed Samar 3-2 in 60 minutes. The scoreline of Muqddas’s victory was 12/10, 10/12, 11/9, 7/11, 12/10. Farhan received Rs1,83,750 cash award while Tayyab got Rs1,20,750. Muqaddas got Rs 55,125 and trophy while Sammar received Rs 36,225 and runners up trophy. Director General Pakistan Rangers Sindh, Major General Rizwan Akhtar (HI), was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony.
