KESC tightens noose on Pak Saudi

KARACHI - KESC moved into a winning position after they posted 340 for eight in first innings taking big first innings lead over Pak Saudi in Patrons Trophy Grade II championship here on Wednesday at NBP ground. Facing a 216 runs first innings deficit Pak Saudi which had made 124 in the first knock were 118 for four wickets in the second innings still 98 runs away from leveling the score. With full one day's play left in the three day competition and the wicket giving support to the spinners KESC is all sat to clinch the match. The power utility has to take just six wickets which include a big tail during the last day to gain victory. KESC which resumed at overnight total of 124 for one were well served by two half century knocks from Asad Shafique who made 75 before departing and Akber Rehman contributed 63 in 76 balls hitting seven fours. Pak Saudi pacer Rizwan Saeed emerged as the most successful bowler taking five for 109. But before KESC first innings ended in the allotted 83 overs losing eight wickets, the team had already taken a big 216 runs lead. Pak Saudi fared slightly better than the first innings and was 118 for four wickets two of which fell to off spinner Misbah khan who gave away 14 runs for his haul. To save itself from defeat Pak Saudi has to score 98 runs to wipe out the deficit and create a substantial lead. However it looked difficult for the limited batting resources of the bankers.
