IPC sets new criterion for sportspersons relief fund

ISLAMABAD  - Syed Riaz Hissain Pirzada, Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC), made it clear that financial assistance will only be given to deserving sports persons. He expressed these views while chairing second meeting of the committee for the administration of Pakistan Sports Foundation relief fund here at Committee Room, Pakistan Sports Board on Tuesday.
Secretary, IPC Ijaz Chaudhry, Additional Secretary IPC, DG Pakistan Sports Board Dr Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera and representatives of KPK & Punjab govts attended the meeting.
Riaz said the main purpose of setting up of the fund is to give financial assistance to all the deserving sportspersons, who couldn’t bear their expenses and are living hand to mouth. In the meeting it is decided that assistance would be given to those sportsperson who had won medal (gold, silver or bronze medal) while competing at international level, or participated at international level, destitute sports persons whose age is above 50, he added.
“Previously the PSB was only entertaining those applicants who were being recommended by their respective sports federations but now it is decided that PSB instead of relying on the sports federations, would also reach to the genuine sports persons for financial assistance. Provincial governments, departments like PIA, Railways and others may also recommend the cases of justifiable sportspersons directly to the PSB.”
Riaz said that he would engage all big corporations to support this fund so that assistance could be given to the national heroes and it was decided that specific criterion keeping in view the above mentioned points would be made in next few days and would be presented for approval.
