AUCKLAND (Sports Desk) - Pakistan are looking to field their strongest line-up for the opening match of their cricket tour of New Zealand today (Thursday, manager Intikhab Alam said Wednesday. The visitors' itinerary begins with a Twenty20 fixture against Auckland at Colin Maiden Park, three days before a Boxing Day meeting with New Zealand at Eden Park in the first of the three Twenty20 internationals. They will name their line-up to play Auckland tomorrow morning, with Alam indicating that they would use the match for a serious hit-out. "This is a build-up and you play you best possible team," he said. "We want to win the match to bring more confidence to the side." Pakistan's Twenty20 squad has plenty of batting firepower with the likes of skipper Shahid Afridi, Younis Khan and Umar Akmal, while a notable name in their bowling attack is veteran pacemen Shoaib Akhtar, once the fasTest bowler the world. The tourists arrived in New Zealand on Sunday and Intikhab said they were happy with their preparations despite some wet weather that forced them indoors on Monday. "We had a one-week training camp before we came and we haven't wasted any time here," he said. "Luckily the weather has got better and the past two days we have outdoors." Intikhab, a former Test captain, was coach when Pakistan, skippered by Younis, captured the Twenty20 World Cup in England last year. He said there were no injury concerns and all players were in contention for selection against Auckland. He added that the coaching staff was reasonably familiar with their first-up opponents, who are leading the domestic competition. "They have had feedback about the Auckland side," he said. "It's important that you know your opposite number." Meanwhile, Intikhab had little to say about the news that Pakistan's cricketers would miss out on the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) next year for the third year in a row.
