LAHORE Former PCB chairman Lt Gen (retd) Tauqir Zia is among some of the citys sports circles heavyweights expected to run for the Lahore City Cricket Association president seat in the coming elections scheduled on March 26. Reports also suggested that former Pakistan captain Aamer Sohail is also wanted to make his mark in the citys cricket at one of the important seats. But some reports suggested that he pulled back from the LCCA elections after hearing that Gen Tauqir is in the race. Though Amer Hayat Khan Rokri has moved court to overturn the PCBs ruling that he cannot runs for the presidents seat. But it is certain the change in the LCCA is in the offing. Another candidate to compete against Gen Tauqir is Kh Nadeem Ahmed. Nadeem is the CEO of Shapes health club and has been nominated as reports suggested by North Zone Cricket Association. As of Gen Tauqir, West Zone Cricket Association has convinced him to fix the cricket at the club level if he wanted to see the game on its right track. West Zone president Azhar Zaidi nominated his name for the post and was backed by more than 34 clubs of the zone. Syed Tauqir Shah of Wahdat Eaglets, Shoaib Dar (Model Town) and Khurrum Hafeez (Cricket Centre) were nominated for the West Zone president, secretary and treasurer seats respectively. However, Gen Tauqir said that there are no groups in his eyes and all the clubs are equal for him. I am here to lift the game and see that no talented players is faced with high-handedness. There would be no room for spoilt brats and safarash under his rule and merit will prevail, he promised. He further said that he would run the LCCA affairs in consultations of the members to make the city cricket model of high standard Reports coming from East Zone says that Mian Javed is likely to be the candidate for the post while the entire zone is running against Amer Hayat Rokri. However, there is split in North Zone over their affiliation with Rokri or his allied forces.
