Saeed Ajmal climbs to top of ODI bowler rankings

Sports Desk LAHORE - Pakistan off spinner Saeed Ajmal has risen to the top of the International Cricket council (ICC) ODI rankings for bowlers following a successful series against Sri Lanka that Pakistan won 4-1. Ajmal grabbed 11 wickets in five games with an average of 16.27 and at an economy rate of less than four runs an over. It won him five places on the rankings, helping him get ahead of Daniel Vettori and Graeme Swann to reach the top spot. Ajmal has had an excellent year in ODI cricket; he's played 17 games in 2011, and picked up 30 wickets at 17.63. He's also had a superb run in Tests. In six games this year, he's taken 41 wickets at 23.41. Shahid Afridi was the top wicket-taker in the Lanka series, with 13 wickets at an average of 15.30, including a five-for; he leapt to seventh place. M Hafeez, who finished with five wickets in as many games, found himself at eighth place. Pakistan also raised to fifth place in ODI team rankings as Australia remained the top ODI side followed by India, South Africa and Sri Lanka. In ICC rankings for ODI batsmen, there is no Pakistan player in the top 10. Umar Akmal is the highest ranked Pakistan ODI batsman who sits on 11th place. Next to him is Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq at 32nd place while Hafeez and Younus Khan are on 38th and 39th positions respectively.
