Shaharyar lifts PIA with unbeaten ton

OUR STAFF REPORTER KARACHI Put into bat first by the Karachi Blues captain, PIA posted 285 runs for the loss of five wickets in their first innings at the end of the first day's play in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Division I match here at the National Stadium on Tuesday. The four-day contest was to begin on Monday but due to the passing away of Nusrat Bhutto, the match was shifted a day ahead. Shaharyar Ghani's unbeaten 106 was the highlight of first day's play. He cracked 14 fours in his innings that has lasted for 167 balls so far. Agha Sabir contributed 48 and Sarfaraz Ahmed added unbeaten 62 at stumps. Karachi Blues skipper M Sami took two wickets for 37 runs. Karachi Blues which have registered just one win in three outings would be hard pressed to clinch a favourable result against the airlines. Wednesday (today) will second day of the match. Brief scores: PIA: 285-5 in 83 overs (Agha Sabir 48, Shaharyar Ghani 106*, Sarfraz Ahmed 62*, M Sami 2-37) v Karachi Blues.
