Diya Club, Young Rising in Women Football semis

BAD - Diya Club and the defending champions Young Rising Club have qualified for the semi-finals of the 7th National Football Championship here on Sunday at Pakistan Sports Board. In the first quarterfinal played at Jinnah Stadium, Diya Club outclassed Punjab 3-0. Marrium Lashari was the star of the show for Diya scoring two goals in the 7th and 51st minute. Hajra Khan scored the teams third goal. Diya Club started the match in a fine manner, as the girls went all out for attack and managed to score in the seventh minute of the first half when Marrium broke the Punjab defence and scored a brilliant solo goal after beating the goalkeeper. Despite several attempts, Diya Club failed to break the Punjab defence and the first half remained at 1-0. Right from the start of the second half Diya girls up the tempo of the match and make some blistering attacks on Punjab goal but the Punjab defence and goalkeeper stood firm until the 51st minute when Marrium once again break the defence and managed to score a well taken goal, to their credit Punjab girls tried to reduce the deficit and made some fine attacks on Diya goal, but they failed to convert some clear goal scoring opportunities. Taking full advantage of Punjab attacks, Diya Club girls once again made a fine move and on Marriums pin point pass Hajra Khan who was unmarked neatly scored her first and teams third goal in the 69th minute. Diya Club girls tried their level best to further extend their lead, but they could not manage it. They contented with a 3-0 victory. In the second quarterfinal between defending champion Young Rising Club and Islamabad at Outer Football Ground, Young Rising Club won the hard fought battle by 2-0. The star of the tournament Malika Noor once again provided the team with an early advantage when she scored pass the diving Islamabad goalie in the second minute. Islamabad girls put up a courageous performance and despite facing the three times champions, played with a lot of confidence and authority and posed a lot of threat to Young Rising defence. Right after the start of the second half, both the teams pushed for supremacy and took control over the match. Rising Club girls tried hard to further make inroads into Islamabad goal. It was an effort kept at bay by some resilient Islamabad defence. In the 70th minute against the run of play Rising Club managed to double their advantage when Sehar Zaman Cooley put the ball into Islamabads net doubling her teams score 2-0. Subsequently, Islamabad girls went all out attack and missed a quite few goal scoring chances had they managed to take all their chances they could have ended up causing major upset of the tournament by ousting defending champions Young Rising Club. In the end experience of defending champions paid off as they managed to hold on to their nerves and won the match 2-0.
