ISLAMABAD - Former captain Zaheer Abbas Monday was full of praise for the national team for their triumph over Zimbabwe in the Twenty-20 series saying heroic Ahmed Shahzad has proved his mettle and he is here to stay in the squad for long.
Pakistan had white-washed Zimbabwe in the two matches T20 series. Ahmed Shahzad jumped 41 places to a career-best 18th in the latest Reliance ICC Player Rankings for T20Is. The rankings were released after Pakistan beat Zimbabwe in the second T20.
Ahmed Shehzad was the highest run-getter of the series from either side with 168 runs, and was named player of the series for his effort. His unbeaten knock of 98 in the second match is also the highest individual score by a Pakistan batsman to date in Twenty20s.
Talking to APP, Asian Bradman said Ahmed did well in both the matches. “It proves his performance is getting better day by day and I am sure he will play with the same consistency in the ODIs as well,” he added.
Zaheer feels the way, the team has performed in the T20s, the same performance will be seen in the ODIs and Tests as well. “Our team can win the ODIs and Tests too if it performs with the same passion and consistency,” he added.
Zaheer further said he is missing Umar Akmal in the team. “I hope everything goes well for Umar,” he said. Pakistan will start their ODI campaign against Zimbabwe from August 27.
Sarfraz Nawaz said, “Pakistan is a better team as compared to Zimbabwe and they proved it in the T20s,” he said.
Sarfraz said Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should have given maximum opportunity to the youngsters in this series for the 2015 World Cup planning.
He further said bringing old players like Younis Khan in the Test squad is not a good decision. “Selectors need to understand that it is the time to focus on the World Cup rather than experimenting things,” he added.
