ISLAMABAD - Managing Director ZTBL Brig Anjum Saeed Akhtar Monday said the bank would organise national ranking tennis event in October, which would be a regular fixture of the PTF calendar.
In an exclusive interview with The Nation, Brig Anjum said: “I am a sportsman and had played cricket when I was young and I also had honour to introduce cricket in Dera Bughti. So I think it is my national and moral duty to promote sports at grassroots level to help the country in finding promising talent in best possible way.” “We have hired around 12 tennis players both male and female and helped them not only in establishing themselves but also we are paying them healthy stipends every month. We will continue hiring more tennis players on the recommendations of PTF president Kaleem Imam, as he is the one who is working tirelessly to take this game to new heights and his work must be appreciated,” he added.
He also promised to take up the matter with ZTBL board regarding up-gradation of PTF complex and taking at last one court on behalf of the bank and equipped that with modern facilities to help the youth in learning tennis and bringing laurels in return. He also announced to start a national talent hunt programme in collaboration with PTF starting from school, college and university level. “We will provide all the facilities to the grassroots level kids and we will focus on female players. Pakistan is blessed with immense amount of natural talent and we will groom raw talent into one of the best in business.”
