ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Army struggled to score 1-0 victory against Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in the 8th Pakistan Premier Football League 2011 match played here at Jinnah Stadium on Tuesday.
Army having services of national players were looked a bit shaky throughout the match but their goalkeeper saved the day for them as they came out with all points despite playing average soccer. PIA started the match on a brisk pace and put the Army defence under tremendous pressure right from the start and they could have taken the lead in the 12th minute but their striker failed to send the ball into the net.
This was PIA's first and the last move of the match. The first half ended with both teams locked at 0-0, Army changed tactics in second half and play according to a plan that worked and PIA defence started to feel the heat from Army forwards and that paid off in the 68th minute when forward Ikram put them in front through a header of a free-kick taken from 30 yards.
Army after scoring the goal tried to further strengthen their position but PIA defence countered all their advances and thus won the match 1-0.
