Lahore Lions, Karachi Zebras score victories in T20 Cup





RAWALPINDI – Lahore Lions and Karachi Zebras registered victories against Peshawar and Faisalabad  in the Faysal Bank Super Eight Twenty20 Cup here at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Lahore Lions defeated Peshawar Panthers 34 runs in the last match of the day and earlier Karachi Zebras thrashed Faisalabad Wolves by 8 wickets in the first match.
Peshawar needed 114 runs for victory were bowled out for 79 runs in 19.3 overs. Zohaib Khan (22) and Raffatullah (14) were the only batsmen who could reach the double figures. Wahab Riaz and Adnan Rasool got three wickets each while Raza Dar and Imran got two wickets each.
Earlier Lahore Lion scored 113 runs after batting first in cloud condition and later succeeded in defending it successfully in a low-scoring match. Lahore three top batsmen went for duck but Pakistan discarded all-rounder Abdul Razzaq played a sheet anchor role and scored 37 runs and saved his team from totally collapse. Raza Ali Khan (25) also batted well beside 17 extras. For Peshawar Panthers skipper Umar Gul  took 3/16 and got 3/28.
Karachi beat Faisalabad: Karachi Zebras beat Faisalabad Wolves by 8 wickets.
Khurram hit seven fours in his unbeaten 54 runs knock while Hasan Raza scored 30 as Karachi reached home in 17.5 overs.  For Faisalabad Waqas Maqsood 2/26 bowled well.  Earlier, Faisalabad Wolves batting first could score 119/8. Ali Waqas (23), Imran Khalid (*19), Asif Hussain (18) batted well. For Karachi Anwar Ali (3/29), Danish Kaneria (2/21) bowled well.
Meanwhile, local police deprived cricket loving fans of Rawalpindi who came to watch their national heroes in action in the Faysal Bank Super Eight Twenty20 cup were again mishandled on Tuesday and were not allowed to enter the ground despite having entry tickets.
The stadium was presented empty look while fans were waiting outside the ground to enter inside but police were allowing them entry into the ground.
When this correspondent stopped some fans to seek their views, all of pleaded for strict action from the higher authorities against the policemen assigned duties to control the crowd but they were misusing their authority and were creating trouble.
PCB officials present on the occasion look helpless as the security agency personnel also not paying attention to their requests. On the other hand, journalists were also facing a lot of difficulties while trying to perform their official duties and security personnel were also misbehaving with them.
