PSB’s negligence can cost country and its squash dearly

ISLAMABAD

All the tall claims made by Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General Syed Amir Hamza Gilani regarding starting of maintenance work at Roshan Khan Squash Complex on the special request of Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) fell on deaf ears as the complex was presenting a horrible look.

PSF secretary Abdul Wahab Marwat sent a written request to the DG PSB to immediately start renovation and repair work at the Roshan Khan Squash Complex, as the prestigious Asian Seniors Individual Squash Championship was round the corner and due to shortage of courts and keeping in mind the importance of the mega event which the country is hosting after a long gap, the DG confirmed that the repairing work has been already started at the complex.  Bu to the great disappointment, nothing in reality was done as the complex was presenting a very horrible look and the courts were in shambles and walls and glass court are in very bad condition due to sheer negligence of an army of the PSB employees who have nothing to do but to get salaries on regular basis.

The washrooms were filled with dust and such a bad smell was coming that it was very hard to stand even at the distance. There was stagnant on the floors while the roofs of courts were clearly seen in tatters with ceilings came out from number of places. The kitchen was presenting a ghost look, with gas stoves were switched on and there was no one even in the entire complex. Lights of the complex was fully switched on in such circumstances when the country has been facing swerve electricity and gas shortage and such a wastage of these assets is a national crime.

The prestige of the country will be at stake during the Asian Squash Championship so instead of lending a helping hand, the PSB is creating unwanted hurdles in the way of the PSF. When the DG had given clear instructions to the staff to start the repair work then why the orders were not being obeyed? Who are the elements who do not want the DG to implement rule of law and follow the just procedure?

It is the duty of the DG PSB to immediately conduct an inquiry as why the work was not initiated and why delaying tactics were used and who are the hidden hands who wanted to bring bad name to the PSB, the PSF and the country as a number of international players, officials and delegates from Asian Squash Federation including the ASF president will be very much present during the mega event. The culprits must be given exemplary punishments and the DG should immediately order his staff to join hands with the PSF and complete the work at Roshan Khan Complex which is already started by the workforce of Pakistan Air Force.
