Lodhi continues winning spree

LAHORE – Mahmood Lodhi beat Wasim Gul to continue his winning streak in the 29th National Chess Championship here at the SISSA Hall on Tuesday. International Master (IM) Shahzad Mirza drew with Ahmad Ali while Mudassar Iqbal, M Zahid and Khalid Ashraf also won their respective games. The championship has entered a very crucial and interesting phase as top positions will be decided in the next two rounds and only half a point may cost a player one of top slots or a place in Pakistan team. Continuing Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP)’s policy of zero tolerance for foul play, arbiters were present all the time during match play in the tournament hall. CFP secretary Dr Naeem Mirza lauded the top performers and hoped that an entertaining contest would be witnessed on the last day of the event.–Staff Reporter
