Tayyab lifts CAS National Junior Squash title


PESHAWAR - Tayyab Aslam of ZTBL clinched the 15th Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) National Junior Squash Championship title after defeating top seed Ali Bokhari of Punjab in the final here at the PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex Friday.
Vice Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Farhat Hussain Khan was the chief guest and witnessed the final. AVM Northern Air Command M Arif, Base Commander Peshawar Air Commodore Waseem Hussain, former World Champion Qamar Zaman, OC PAF Sports Control Board Wing Commander Ijaz Khan, officials, players and spectators were also present on the occasion.
Tayyab stunned Ali in five-set battle lasted for 63 minutes. Tayyab, who committed 11 errors by hitting the tin three times each in the first and second sets and five in the fifth sets, staged a strong comeback by winning the championship carried Rs 500,000 as prize money. Tayyab lost the first set to Ali at 9-11 but made a comeback in the second and won by 11-6. Ali again took the lead by winning the set 9-11 but he managed his position, winning the remaining two sets 11-7, 11-4 to seal the fate of the title.
In the U-17 final, top seeded Israr Ahmad of Punjab beat second seed Ahsan Ayaz of PAF 3-0 in a one-sided affair by 12-10, 11-9 and 11-7. Ali Karamat of Punjab retained U-15 title for the second consecutive year after defeating Faizan Khan 3-2.
In the U-13 final, top seed Abbas Zeb of PAF defeated  M Junaid of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 3-0. In the U-11 category final, Haris Qasim of Punjab beat Zeeshan Malik of PAF 3-0 as the score was 11-9, 11-5 and 11-8.
