ISLAMABAD - The Interim Committee of Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) on Wednesday resolved to ban Lt Gen (retd) Syed Arif Hasan and M Khalid Mahmood for life from holding any office in any sports organisation at any level at home or abroad.
The decision to this effect was taken during a meeting of the interim committee held at Roshan Khan Squash Complex here under the chairmanship of its president M Asif Bajwa.
The panel also decided that the activities of Khalid Mahmood be brought to the notice of his department for strict disciplinary action against him in the interest of the national sports and to preserve the prestige of the department. The committee also deliberated on holding of 32nd National Games as resolved by the executive committee of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB). Besides, it discussed to undertake the process of elections of POA as an outcome of the meeting of Senate Standing Committee of Sports on May 24 and as previously resolved by the Executive Committee of the PSB.
Interim Committee of POA secretary Rana Mujhaid briefed the panel that officials of the Ministry for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) and the PSB in their meeting held with interim committee officials had confirmed to hold the 32nd National Games from June 28 to July 3 and released the required funds for the purpose. The panel, while appreciating the efforts and spirit of Ministry for IPC, thanked the minister, the federal secretary and others for providing the opportunity to hold National Games in their true letter and spirit.
It was also decided to call an emergent meeting of the national sports federations and participating units. The panel also constituted various committees for the smooth and befitting conduct of the games.
The panel, while discussing the conduct of Arif Hasan, observed that since the decision of Supreme Court of Pakistan dated May 8, 2012, Arif Hasan had remained involved in various illegal, unethical and uncalled for activities which had gravely damaged the sports in general and brought bad name to the country as well as disrespect to the superior courts of the country.
