LAHORE - The District Level competitions of the Punjab Youth Festival 2014 were contested with great zeal on the second on Thursday. In all, 11920 players featured in different contests in various districts of Punjab out of which 9202 returned successful. The provincial metropolis remained upfront in the festival activity participation on Thursday too. The Iqbal Town locality of the city had a cricket tape ball matches in which Gulberg Town defeated Aziz Bhatti Town while in another match of the event, Shalimar Town beat Lahore Cantt. In tug of war competition, Yasir Ali, Akbar and Khalid Club won their contests after close encounters. In volleyball, Haseeb, Kamran, Shahzada Ali and Imran Club returned triumphant. In bodybuilding contest, Yasin Ali, Khalid, Mirza Javed, Babar Ali and Yasir Khan were adjudged winners in their categories. Hamid Ali beat Mateen Ali in chess competition. Hasnat took the karate title along with Bilawal and Kamran while in taekwondo, Asif, Danish and Dilawar won their respective bouts. Meanwhile, PCSIR Pahse II outplayed PCSIR phase I to win the kabaddi event of the Punjab Youth Festival (PYF) Cooperative Housing Societies competitions held here on Thursday. Wapda Employees Cooperative Society won tug of war event, Larex thrashed Iqbal Avenue by 4-1 in football event while Wapda Society beat Iqbal Avenue in arm-wrestling event. Divisional Convener Sports, Mian Naseer Ahmad was chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners. Secretary Cooperative Societies Tahir Raza Khan was also present.Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said: “The organisation of Punjab Youth Festival helped bring youth to the grounds and indulge them in healthy activities instead of wasting their time in false activities. More than 3.8 million youth has participated in the three levels of PYF and it will reach to more than 5 million. More than 50 world record will be established during the PYF which will bring food name and fame to the country.
