ISLAMABAD – The automobile workshops in residential areas of the federal capital are causing noise pollution have made the lives of the residents miserable, particularly those suffering from ailments like heart problem and hypertension.

Owners of workshops are doing denting work in residential areas of the city. A large number of residents and traders of the affected localities complained about noise-emitting workshops. Ali Tahir a resident of G-7 while talking to APP said that workshops situated in the locality were creating noise pollution. The workers struck hammers with full force, which hit their minds directly.

“We have brought the matter into the notice of the concerned authorities but no positive action has yet been taken to shift workshops from residential areas,” he added.

Muhammad Faisal in I-9 said their concern over existence of workshops in residential areas. “It disturbs our sleep. Some of the workshops remain open till late at night, which cause noise pollution during sleep at night,” he said. Shahid Iqbal in G-11 told that the workshops in residential areas all over the city are doing business for years but the civic body has never bothered to remove them from residential areas. Malik Amir, a workshop owner, said the CDA should develop the area allotted for auto workshops as well as provide basic facilities to mechanics required for their business.

When contacted to Capital Development Authority (CDA) official admitted existence of auto workshops in residential areas.

He said that there is no alternative place in the city to shift them. However he said that a strategy should be evolved for shifting their business to commercial areas.
