LAHORE – Lahore Gymkhana golf team defeated Royal Palm team by 33-19 to clinch the Inter Club Team Event played here at the Gymkhana Golf Course on Sunday.
Twelve team members of Gymkhana comprising six pairings in the handicap category 10 to 18 totally dominated their competitors from Royal Palm and swayed the competition in Gymkhana’s favour by winning all the four ball matches and eight of the singles matches thereby providing their team with 20 points as against four by Royal Palm players.
As for the competition amongst players in the handicap category 0 to 9, Royal Palm players had the better of the Gymkhana players and aggregated 15 points as against the host team’s 13.
For Gymkhana team, the best performers were Sameer Iftikhar and Mohsin Anwar, Qayum Rashid and Zulfiqar Rana, Khurshid Aziz and Dr Khurram Saadat, Hamid Sethi and Qasim Riaz, Tariq Misbah and Ahmed Khalid, Ahad Naeem and Dr Dildar, Omer Zia and Asad Abbas and Asad Niaz and Karamatullah Chaudry.
The players who won their matches for Royal Palm were Mahd Zafar and Abbas Ali Khan, Mohsen Zafar and Hussain Hamid, Omer Salamat and Faisal Sayid, and in singles Lt Gen M Tariq, Mohsen Zafar, Sardar Murad, Raza Ali Khan, Abbas Ali Khan, Omer Salamat, Faisal Sayid, Abdullah Sharif, Imran Miraj, Fareed Malik and Hamayun Mian won their matches.
At the conclusion ceremony, Royal Palm team captain Lt Gen (retd) M Tariq handed over the glittering trophy to Gymkhana team captain Amer Mehmood in the presence of Lahore Gymkhana convener Agha Ali Imam.
