Court refuses to accept surety bonds of Ayyan

Rawalpindi - The court yesterday refused to accept the surety bonds of accused model Ayyan Ali in currency smuggling case while raising legal objection over one of the three surety bonds.
The court ordered Ayyan Ali to remove the errors from her surety bond and postponed the matter till today (Tuesday).
According to details, Ayyan Ali appeared before Customs, Anti Smuggling and Taxation Court Special Judge Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan along with her lawyer Sardar Khurram Latif Khosa to submit her surety bonds to get back her passport.
However, the judge raised legal objections on one of the surety bonds of the accused model and directed her to make correction in the bond and submit it again. The court refused to return Ayyan Ali her passport and adjourned the matter till today (Tuesday).
Sardar Khurram Latif Khosa, while talking to The Nation, confirmed the development and said that her client tried to furnish three surety bonds worth Rs1 million each before the court but the judge raised objection on one of the surety bond. He said that the judge observed that the court ordered Ayyan Ali to submit three surety bonds worth Rs1 million each but one surety bond (registry of a house) is worth Rs8,00,000.
He said that on this he argued before the court that the cost of plot was Rs800,000 but total cost of the building was Rs4 million. He added that the judge rejected his plea and remarked that the matter of passport returning would be delayed more if the court went into verification process of the registry (ownership documents of property). “It will be better for accused to furnish surety bond worth Rs1 million to avoid any legal problem,” he quoted the judge as saying. Sardar Khurram Latif Khosa informed that her client had arranged a surety bond worth Rs1 million, which would be submitted to court today.
To a query, the lawyer of model replied that Interior Ministry kept secret the list of people whose names were put on ECL therefore it would be premature to claim either Ayyan Ali’s name was placed on ECL or not.
Earlier, Ayyan Ali arrived in court premises amid tight security. A large numbers of her fans were already present there to have a glimpse of Ayyan Ali. It was the second time that the court denied her passport.
