Govt toeing Musharraf's policies: Kakar

QUETTA - President Balochistan Bar Association (BBA) Baz Muhammad Kakar has alleged the incumbent government of toeing the policies of former dictator Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf, saying the killing of a Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) activist in Quetta at a peaceful rally is a crystal clear example of the attitude. He expressed these views while addressing a news conference on Monday during which he was flanked by BBA Vice-President Nadir Chilgari and General Secretary Aminullah Kakar. He said the law and order situation in the province deteriorating with each passing day, depicting the rulers incapability. People were attaching high hopes with the 2008 elections, but unfortunately, the democratic government could not come up with the expectations of the people, he remarked, alleging that the incidents of extra-judicial killings and arrests were continued. He criticised the law enforcers for targeting the peaceful activists of BNP-M, which resulted in death of one of them and injuries to four others. Lawyers community strongly condemn such excesses against political workers as holding peaceful rallies is the right of every citizen and political parties, he said, adding, Some invisible forces are trying to hatch conspiracies to push the situation in Balochistan in chaos. Continuing his assault, the BBA president said the law enforcing agencies were violating the norms and tradition, as common peoples houses were being continuously raided and such actions would force the people to take the law into their hands. He said the masses had lost confidence in the assemblies and police, as they were looking only towards judiciary but some invisible forces were trying to create a clash between the democratic institutions so that judiciary could not work smoothly. Kakar said owing to deteriorating law and order situation, people were migrating to other provinces while the investors were hesitant to invest in Balochistan. He said the law enforcement agencies had claimed having capacity to hunt down the culprits but so far they had made not any breakthrough for solving the mystery of target-killings. Baz Muhammad said the provincial govt was spending millions of rupees on the assemblys sessions but so far the public representatives had not taken any exemplary step for the welfare of masses. Responding to a question, he said the lawyers community would not remain silent spectator over the extra-judicial killings and arrest of innocent people and would move the courts in this regard. He said the government should resolve the problems of people and take political parties into confidence for normalising the situation in Balochistan.
