RAWALPINDI - Federal Minister for Science and Technology Senator Shibli Faraz said that Pakistan has a natural climate to grow hemp in different areas of the country and the ministry has started work to formulate National Hemp Policy. He stated this at the inaugural ceremony of “PCSIR Hemp Value Chain Development Programme – 2021,” held at Institute of Hydroponics Agriculture (IHA) of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR), here on Thursday at Rawat. Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR, Dr. Syed Ata-ur-Rehman Additional Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology and Dr. Syed Hussain Abidi, Chairman Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR), PMAS-AAUR seniors, faculty members, Government dignitaries and prominent scientists also attended the ceremony. The Hemp Development Programme is a development project of the Government of Pakistan, initiated on the directives of the honourable Prime Minister of Pakistan.  The federal minister said that it is very unfortunate that the agriculture sector which was the backbone of our economy had not received due attention in the past.
