RAWALPINDI - Minister of State and Chairman Board of Investment Saleem H Mandviwala said that to enhance industrial activity in the country Exports Processing Zones (EPZs) in collaboration with different Chambers would be set up throughout the country where government would provide all kinds of infrastructure including roads, electricity, water, gas and telephone, up to the gate of the zones. In addition to this, special ten tax holidays would also be offered to the industry, which would establish its unit in the EPZs. He said this during his visit to Rawalpindi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here on Wednesday. Besides RCCI President Syed Asad Mashadi, vice president Imtiaz Chaudhary, former presidents and a large number of members from the business community were also present during the meeting. Respective Chambers of Commerce would be responsible for purchasing a minimum of 50 acres of land and development work inside the industrial zones. A board comprising the President of every Chamber would be decision making body regarding EPZs, Mandviwala added. He suggested that the plots of those buyers in these EPZs might be cancelled who would fail to establish the industry within the stipulated period of time. He said that the purpose of setting up Board of Investment was to attract local and international investors by creating the business friendly environment and boosting up their confidence. The price reduction of many major items like petroleum and steel caused hindrance in fulfilling the targets of FBR, however harassment from any tax officials would never be tolerated at any cost, he added. The State Minister told the gathering that the first ever gold refinery in the country was being established at Sundar Industrial Estate by the private sector. On the occasion, RCCI President Syed Asad Haider Mashadi said that due to political instability and law and order situation the local investors were reluctant to invest in the country and in these circumstances how the foreign investors would show their confidence here. He said to bring stability in the country all the political forces of Pakistan should work together by forgetting their differences. He said that the business community was making efforts for its survival but in this hard time the FBR was pressurizing them to achieve the collection targets. If government could provide conducive atmosphere, the private sector would not only provide maximum employment to the people but would also generate revenues for the country, Mashadi added.
