KARACHI - Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah yesterday approved a summary giving special powers for 90 days to Rangers in Karachi and allowing their stay in Sindh for another one year.
Presiding over a meeting on law and order here at the CM House, he said Pakistan Rangers and police have done a wonderful job by restoring peace to the port city.
“We must appreciate their struggle and sacrifices for restoring law and order in the province,” he said and added their role in eradication of terrorism and target killing, and crackdown on extortionists is commendable.
Chief Secretary Siddique Memon presented the summary under which the home department had recommended extension in the stay of Pakistan Rangers in Sindh for another one year and grant of special powers for 90 days to continue their operations in Karachi.
The chief minister approved the summary forthwith and directed the chief secretary to coordinate with the federal government for a notification.
First day at office
CM Murad went to his office at 9am. Additional Chief Secretary (Dev) Muhammad Waseem and Secretary (GA) Sajid Jamaal Abro received him. Chief Secretary Siddique and Services Secretary Usman Chachar also joined them later.
Senior PPP leader Manzoor Wasan and Senator Rehman Malik called on the CM and discussed with him different governance and political issues.
CM protocol reduced
The chief minister directed his Principal Secretary Alamuddin Bullo to slash his motorcade protocol by 50 percent. “I don’t believe in unnecessary protocol and pomp and show. This big protocol causes problems in the smooth flow of traffic.”
The principal secretary told the chief minister that nine vehicles/police mobiles usually move with the chief minister in his security and protocol. On this the chief minister directed him to reduce them to four.
Cabinet WhatsApp group
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah using the latest technology for good governance has created a ‘Cabinet’ group on WhatsApp. In the group all the ministers, advisers and special assistants have been added. The chief minister himself is administrator of the group.
Rs1m assistance for cricketer Hanief
Earlier, the chief minister visited legend cricketer Hanif Muhammad in Aga Khan Hospital and inquired about his health. He prayed for his early recovery and said he was his fan.
The CM announced financial assistance of Rs1 million to the ailing legend for his medical treatment and other expenditures.
