ZAMIR SHEIKH & NISAR MEHDI KARACHI President Asif Zardari said on Monday that some elements were trying to make a dent in the coalition government in Sindh. He was talking to a delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) which met him at Bilawal House. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Senior Minister Pir Mazharul Haq, Local Bodies Minister Agha Siraj Durrani, Law Minister Ayaz Soomro, Rashid Rabbani, Advisor to CM on Information Jamil Soomro, Rafique Engineer and Najmi Alam were also present on the occasion. The MQM delegation included Federal Overseas Minster Dr Farooq Sattar, Port and Shipping Minister Babar Khan Ghauri, Sindh Health Minister Dr Saghir Ahmed, Adil Siddiqui and Waseem Ahmed. These elements do not like the existing atmosphere of reconciliation in the country and therefore trying to create a rift among the coalition partners, he noted. The President called for further enhancing cooperation and coordination between the two parties to fail the designs of anti-democratic forces. He advised both the MQM and PPP to contact each other in case of any law and order situation to effectively defuse the tension. He pointed out that the government was strictly following the politics of reconciliation under the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and, therefore, respecting the mandate of every political party in the country. President Asif Zardari pledged that those who are disrupting the peaceful atmosphere in Karachi would be dealt with iron hands. He said there are land mafia, drug mafia who have colluded with the terrorists and now spreading lawlessness and disrupting the situation in Karachi. Later, briefing the newsmen after the meeting Pir Mazharul Haq said the most of the issues have been resolved between the MQM and PPP and the meeting has decided to sort out all the issue through negotiations. He said that President has advised the PPP and MQM to beware of those elements which are trying to create differences between the two parties. Pir Mazhar said that both the parties have now understood that there are some elements that do not like this coalition to go forward in the province as well as at the centre. They, time and again, try to create differences between PPP and MQM. We are two brothers of the province and we will try to resolve all the differences through negotiations and we are 200 percent confident to resolve all the issues. These are minor differences, he noted. He said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had already directed the party to resolve matters with other political forces through negotiations for the sake of the country. Farooq Sattar said that matters relating to law and order, local bodies elections came under discussion. It was decided to resolve all the matters through negotiations. He said that MQM delegation has expressed concerns over the law and order situation which was created by the land and drug mafia and it has nothing to do with the politics. It was observed that these elements were trying to disturb the law and order situation, destabilize the elected government and weaken the economy and therefore President Asif Zardari was fully supportive of taking tough action against them. Responding to a question regarding forthcoming local bodies elections, Dr Sattar said that both President Asif Zardari and Altaf Hussain are strictly following the politics of reconciliation. He said that the President had already announced that local bodies elections would be held in next four months. He said that non-political administrators would be appointed till such time that councillors and nazims are elected. He said that most of the matters have been resolved between both the parties and remaining issues will be settled in a meeting between the Sindh Governor and Chief Minister. Agha Siraj Durrani said that matters relating to local bodies have been almost finalized between the PPP and MQM as we are adhering to the politics of reconciliation.
