KARACHI - President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday directed the administration to involve local people in the planning process of new city Zulfikarabad being developed in the province of Sindh. The President gave these directives at a meeting presided over by him here at Bilawal House. Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, M Salman Farooqui, secretary general to the President, Advisor to CM on Information Jameel Soomro, Fazl-ur-Rehman Chief Secretary Sindh, General SB Shahid Chairman ZDA, Secretary Finance Department Sindh, Chairman P&D Department Sindh & senior member Board of Revenue Sindh. He stated that it should also be ensured that the rights of locals are fully protected in both the planning and execution of the new city. Zardari directed that the city be planned in an environment friendly way and should contain the best practices followed in existing models in Pakistan as well as internationally. He directed that master plan should follow the modern concepts of 21st century. The City must have communication links with other parts of Pakistan. It should also contain top class educational institutions and should be culturally compatible with the Sindhi culture. Zardari directed that the design of the City should contain every safety measure to make it crime free, so as to give complete protection to the residents. He further directed that resources of the private sector should be fully exploited through their involvement in public-private partnership. In this regard the international best practices should be followed. The City should have economic zones which are compatible with the local region, including the fishing industry.
