Rally against price-hike

LAHORE - Hundreds of Wapda workers took out a mass procession from Bakhtiar Labour Hall under the aegis of Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union here on Saturday against raising high prices of POL over the poor masses on the eve of New Year, says a press release. They also condemned the proposed move to privatise electricity distribution system against the public interest which would further give price hike of electricity. The protestors were carrying banners in support of their demands along with national flags and red banners and marched through Nisbat Road and Mcleod Road. They were beating breast against price hike and rising unemployment and against price hike. the economic and social policies of the government pursued on the 'behest of IMF and World Bank. The procession was led by Khurshid Ahmed, General Secretary, Malik Noor Muhammad, Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah, Ch. Maqsood Ahmed, Sh. Muhammad Shoab. Sajid Kasmi, Zahid Hussain Shah, Hassan Munir Bhatti and other representatives of the Union. Khurshid Ahmed General Secretary and other office bearers of the union and passed a resolution demanding the Government to withdraw increased prices of petrol, diesel and kerosine oil and freeze the prices of essential commodities and check profiteers.
