LAHORE – PIA management would meet Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday (today) after modifying its business plan which was rejected by PM in last meeting, spokesman of national flag carrier Tahir Khaliq said on Sunday.
According to modified business plan, now PIA management would not take financial assistance from government, spokesman claimed. He further said that PIA would get planes and pay after earning from same planes without getting monetarily help from government.
Last time a meeting was held at PM’s House to review PIA Business Plan to make the national airline efficient and profitable but was not approved by PM.
Later PM directed Secretaries Committee, consisting of Cabinet Secretary, Finance Secretary, Secretary Establishment and Secretary Defence to review the “Business Plan” and to formulate final recommendations for submission to Cabinet Committee on restructuring aimed at making a turn-around.
The proposed restructuring plan broadly entails (a) Corporate Governance (b) Financial Restructuring (c) Operational Restructuring (d) Marketing and Fleet.
The meeting is expected to be attended by Minister for Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Minister for Defence Ch Ahmad Mukhtar, Secretaries Finance, Cabinet, Establishment and Defence, Chairman, FBR, MD PIA and the senior officials of the relevant ministries.
