LAHORE - Food Minister Bilal Yasin on Wednesday conducted surprise raids at various hotels in different areas of the City and sealed two well-known hotels of Gaddafi Stadium and Gulberg.
Accompanied by officials of Food Authority, the minister levied penalties for defective sanitation and provision of substandard eatables to some other hotels.
He conducted raids at two other hotels located in Shadman area and levied penalties of Rs7000 and Rs12000 for selling defective and substandard ketchup, providing stale meal and substandard meat to the customers. He also raided the canteen established at Hijaz Hospital Gulberg and levied penalty of Rs5000 for providing substandard eatables. He also ordered sealing of Shinwari at Gaddafi Stadium for containing stale and stinking meat along with having worms in the freezers of the hotel. The minister also ordered sealing of a well-known Chinese Restaurant located in Main Boulevard Gulberg for selling stale meat, having poor sanitation, and detecting skin diseases on the hands of personnel who were cooking the meal.
Bilal Yasin said that implementation of code of ethics, chalked out by Food Authority, was essential in all hotels and restaurants established in Lahore and adjoining areas. He said that there was a need for ensuring provision of quality meal, clean spices and sanitation of places where food is provided to the general public, in order to ensure availability of quality food to the people in accordance with the hygienic principles of health.
