Eight killed, four injured in armed clash over old enmity near Madeji

SUKKUR - Eight people were gunned down and four injured in an old dispute between Junejo and Kalhoro communities in katcha (riverine) area in Meeral Ji Wandh and Drighpur villages located within the limits of Jhabar Shaikh police station near here on Tuesday.

The dispute started ten years ago over a theft incident. Both sides used sophisticated weapons including rocket launchers against each other in two hours of firing and police remained away like spectators till the firing ended.

The dead included Madan Junejo, Mashooq Junejo, Mirza Junejo, Ali Raza Junejo, Ashiq Mangnejo, Badal Kalhoro, Saeed Kalhoro and Ibrahim Kalhoro. Bodies could not be shifted for hours due to late arrival of police at the spot. After intervention by the notables they were shifted in private vehicles to Madeji Hospital for fulfillment of legal formalities. Postmortem of two men of Kalhoro community Badal and Ibrahim was carried out by the doctor in the riverine area as their bodies were not shifted to the hospital, police said.

The disputed area remained a no-go area for several hours and the police did nothing to prevent the firing and save the people lives. People of the area remained home due to panic and those farmers who were working in their agricultural fields rushed to their houses to save their lives. Women of Junejo community said that their men were going to take burning wood when they were suddenly attacked by their rivals from the Kalhoro community in which five persons were killed including three brothers.Heirs of Saeed Kalhoro alleged that people of Junejo community attacked our men in which three persons have been murdered.

SSP Tanveer Tunio said that a heavy contingent of police have been deployed in the disputed area, and police pickets have been established to stop further escalation of the dispute. He said the situation was now under control. He said cases would be registered as per the will of the heirs of the disputed communities. Larkana Range DIGP Mazhar Nawaz Shaikh also took notice of the loss of eight innocent lives and called for a detailed report from the SSP Shikarpur.

2 suspect dacoits killed in encounter

Hyderabad Police claimed to have killed two dacoits in an encounter on Tuesday.

Hali Road and Hussain police killed two most wanted robbers during an encounter in the American Quarters area.

According to police spokesman, both dacoits identified as Saleem Charhiya and Noor-ul-Islam alias Thari were wanted by the police in several heinous crime incidents. Both the accused were wanted by police in more than 40 high-profile cases, including murder, kidnapping for ransom, dacoity and robbery incidents, A spokesman added. Further investigation was underway.
