Peshawar - Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) provincial president Senator Maulana Attaur Rahman said on Tuesday that JUI-F would sweep the second phase of local government elections in the province while the provincial executive council of the party will announce decisions today (Wednesday) regarding LG polls and the proposed long march.
Speaking at a party gathering here on Tuesday, he said that people had got fed up with the policies of the PTI-led government, particularly what he termed unprecedented price hike in the country’s history.
Several activists from Jamaat-e-Islami and Pakistan People’s Party announced joining the JUI-F on the occasion.
Maulana Attaur Rahman said that the PTI government had destroyed Pakistan’s economy. “The government has made life miserable for people due to unaffordable hike in prices and people are compelled on committing suicides,” he added.
He said that prices of petroleum products had increased by Rs12 a few days ago and then the Prime Minister announced Rs10 decrease in its price only to deceive the masses. But people were clever enough and they cannot be deceived through such mean steps any more, he said.
Meanwhile, the JUI-F executive council meeting was held at Mufti Mahmud Markaz. The meeting, chaired by Maulana Attaur Rahman, would make decisions about next round of the local government elections. JUI-F provincial spokesman Abdul Jalil Jan said tickets had been allotted to the party candidates in 18 districts where polls are to be held.
He said the executive council meeting would also mull a strategy for the elections. “This executive council meeting is also considering preparations about the March 23 long march and the decisions would be announced today (Wednesday),” he said.
