LAHORE - Pakistan Wapda won the men and women team events in the DHA 59th National Badminton Championships here at the Captain Fasih Babr Amin Sports Complex DHA Lahore. In the men team event final, Pakistan Wapda outlasted Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 3-0. In the first singles, Awais Zahid (Wapda) beat Shoaib Riaz 23-21, 21-10, in the first doubles, Azeem/Zulqarnain (Wapda) beat Fazal/Tahir 21-12, 21-14 and in the second singles, Irfan Saeed (Wapda) beat Murad Ali 21-13, 21-10. In the women team event final, Pakistan Wapda overpowered Sindh by 3-0. In first singles, Mahoor Shahzad (Wapda) beat Sana Haneef 21-6, 21-5, in the first doubles, Saima Waqas/Khizra Rasheed (Wapda) beat Palwasha/Ammarah 21-13, 21-15 and in the second singles, Ghazala Siddiqui (Wapda) beat Ammarah 21-9, 21-8. Meanwhile, the 1st round of men’s singles and doubles and women’s singles and doubles events were inaugurated by POA Secretary Khalid Mahmood in the presence of Administrator DHA Lahore Brig Waheed Gul Satti, Director Sports DHA Brig (R) Munir Ahmad, Additional Director Sports Lt Col (R) Ziauddin, PBF President Wajid Ali Ch and Secretary Raja Azhar Mahmood.
