ISLAMABAD - Earthquake tremors were felt in upper parts of the country including Jammu and Kashmir region, the Pakistan Metrological Department said on Wednesday.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake measured 5.7 on the Richter scale with its epicentre in Indian held Kashmir, some 88 km away from Jammu city in the occupied Kashmir.
The tremors lasted for 15 second started at 12:01pm and were felt in Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, other areas of AJK, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Faislabad, Peshawar, Parachinar, Mohmand Agency, Shabqadar, Swat, Chiniot, Lahore and other cities and towns of Upper Punjab.
Following the tremors, citizens rushed to open spaces, fearing for their safety. No loss of life was reported.
Indian cities including New Delhi, Amartasar, Patyala, Chandigarh and parts of Indian held Kashmir were also jolted by quake.
Tremors were also felt in eastern Afghanistan and southern China.
This was the third tremors felt within three-week as on April 16, a 7.8 earthquake with its epicentre in Iran was also felt across Pakistan. At least 40 people were killed in Mashakhel a town located in Balochistan near Pak-Iran border.
On April 24, jolts were felt across Pakistan including in Parachinar, Mohmad Agency, Shabqadar, Swat, Peshawar, Islamabad, Chiniot and Lahore.
