ISLAMABAD - Leader of the Opposition in NA has cautioned the government and the establishment not to ban the MQM as this would deteriorate the situation in the province.

Talking to media persons in his chamber at the Parliament House on Thursday, the Opposition leader said that it would not be in the interest of the country to ban the MQM.

He said that everyone knows that who is in touch with whom.

He warned that whoever would shake hand with Altaf Hussan would be considered enemy of Pakistan.

He said that everything would become clear about MQM in the next six months. He also claimed that there was no harm to people in Sindh in the implementation of quota system.

He said that the PPP government was following merit and all the recruitments are being made on merit.

He said that if the National Assembly rejected the Opposition’s bill on Panama Leaks investigation, it would be assumed that the government was not serious for the investigation.

He further said that if the Opposition bill was rejected the combined Opposition would devise a strategy for the joint protest.

Khursheed Shah said that the government has given the impression that by not increasing the POL prices in the last five months, it has done a great favour to the people.  He said that it is the other way round as OGRA recommended reduction in POL prices and the government instead of giving relief to people imposed new taxes. He said that the government amassed a tax of Rs 526.8 billion in 2015-16 on head of petroleum. He said the price of petrol would come down to Rs 42 if the taxes which were prevalent during the tenure of PPP were enforced.

He said that the PML-N which called the petroleum levy as Jagga Tax during the PPP government was itself collecting 10 per cent levy on POL.

He rejected the government claim of improvement in economy and said that if the economic situation has improved, then why the government was not giving relief to the people.
