RISJA members stage protest against Shakil Shaikh

RAWALPINDI - RISJA members staged a strong protest against misbehaviour of National T20 organising committee chairman Shakil Shaikh and PCB security in-charge SP (R) Younus Butt here on Thursday.

RISJA patron Malik Shakeel Awan, former NPC president Shahryar Khan, RISJA acting president Arif Mehmood, secretary Shakir Abbasi, former president Mohsin Ali, Rana Tanveer Javed along with others sports journalists participated in the protest.

RISJA secretary condemned the attitude of Shakil and Younus towards sports journalists of the twin cities and demanded the PCB chairman to look into the matter and provide justice to the journalists. They said: “The strangers are allowed access to all the corners of the stadium, while genuine sports journalists are not permitted to talk to the players, and also being manhandled and misbehaved by the incompetent PCB officials.”

RISJA secretary Shakir Abbasi asked Shakil to tender unconditional apology with immediate effect or else there would be a countrywide protest to be staged against the PCB. The matter would also be raised at the International Sports Journalists body AIPS level, he added. A resolution was also presented before the protesters, in which it was agreed to follow a written complaint with the NPC, urging it to remove Shakil Shaikh’s name from the NPC membership. In another resolution, PM Nawaz Sharif, who is also patron of the PCB, was urged to remove Shakil from the PCB governing body.
