“Get rid of your parents. Get rid of the new will. Sounds like a plan to me.”
-Detective LesZoeller
The Menendez murders become one of the most famous criminal cases of the 20century. In 1989, Jose and Mary Menendez were shot to death, to the point that they were unidentifiable, by 15 rounds from two 12-guage shotguns. The police initially thought that it was a mob hit or a cause of some business rivalry but eventually, the sons of the couple, Lyle and Eric became primary suspects due to their unusual behaviour. Jose, at the time of his death, was worth 14 million dollars and within six months of his death, the two brothers has spent over 700,000 dollars of his fortune for personal luxury purchases. Eventually, they were found guilty after tapes from their therapy sessions revealed their confessions and the feeling of oppression that they felt drove them to killing their parents. They were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
