Lahore Qalandars thrashed Peshawar Zalmi by 29 runs in the ninth match of the seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 at National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Playing first, Lahore Qalandars set a target of 200 runs for Peshawar Zalmi. Coming back to this innings, the Lahore openers got them off to a fantastic start as Fakhar Zaman played another impressive knock. He scored a century in the previous game and notched up a quick fifty tonight.
His partner - Abdullah Shafique played a crucial knock too as the Peshawar bowlers were taken to the cleaners within the powerplay.
Arshad Ali conceded 36 runs in 3 overs, while Usman Qadir was expensive, had conceded 43 runs. Irshad bagged a couple of wickets, but he conceded 47 runs as well. In short, not a great day for the bowlers.
Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi had won the toss and invited Qalandars to bat first.
Peshawar Zalmi looked promising in their first game of the tournament. They beat Quetta Gladiators by 5 wickets. However, the Zalmis succumbed to a 9-wicket defeat at the hands of Islamabad United in their next game.
Peshawar Zalmi batted first in that encounter and were reduced to 35 for 4 in 6.1 overs. The likes of Kohler Cadmore (0 of 3), Yasir Khan (14 off 9), Haider Ali (15 off 13), and Talat (2 off 9) failed to hit the straps.
However, Shoaib Malik and Sherfane Rutherford then steadied the ship as the duo put on a 73-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Shoaib Malik, unfortunately, got out after scoring 25 of 22 balls but Sherfane Rutherford went on to play an unbeaten 70-run knock-off 46 balls.
