Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister who was also one of the most famous social activists during the American Civil Rights movement in the 1950s. He was assassinated in 198 after having fought tireless for equality and human rights for African Americans, the economically disadvantaged as well as those people who were the victims of various other kinds of injustices. He advocated peaceful protests and quickly became the driving force behind the passing of important legislation like the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act. He was even awarded the Nobel Peace Prise in 1964.
