The 42nd death anniversary of the legendary folk singer Alam Lohar is being observed on Saturday.
The renowned Punjabi singer was born in 1928 in the village of Achh located in district Gujarat, Punjab. He pioneered a maiden style of singing with an Eastern instrument called Chimta.
Renowned for performing a matchless rendition of Heer Waris Shah, Lohar was the voice behind incredible folklore such as Saif-ul-Malook and Jugni.
In addition to this, he was awarded the Pride of Performance in 1979 by the government of Pakistan.
One of the finest folk singers of the country, Lohar died on July 3, 1979, in a road accident and was buried in Lalamusa.
