AHMEDPUR EAST The administrator of the Tehsil Municipal Administration Thursday could not satisfy the questioner about the criteria of anti-encroachment campaign in Ahmedpur East during a meeting held in Jinnah Hall. The meeting was presided over by Administrator Imtiaz Ahmed Khan, who is also assistant commissioner, while DSP Mirza Arif Rasheed and Tehsil Municipal Officer Jam Nazak Hussein were also present. During the meeting, the assistant commissioner failed to satisfy a questioner, PML-N leader Qazi Adnan Farid, who asked him to show the map of the city and asked him to update about the strategy to remove encroachments from Chowk Munir Shaheed to Chowk Chahca Basti where a dual carriageway was being constructed. The PML-N leader asked the officialdom why the Highway Department marked 70 feet of both the sides of the road and changed the criteria and marked 64 feet on the area in front of some influential shopkeepers. Mr Qazi, Rana Saleem and others urged him to implement the criteria of the Highway Depatment for the removal of encroachments which is 110 feet each side of the road. They said that Administration should clarify whether this exercise was being conducted just to please the MNA or it was really interested in implementing the chief ministers agenda in letter and spirit. However, the administrator of Tehsil Municipal Administration told the participants that on the orders of the Punjab chief minister, all encroachments would be removed in the subdivision without any discrimination and this exercise would complete in urban and rural areas within 25 days. The AC said that the TMA had issued two-day notices to all the shopkeepers from Chowk Chacha Basti to Chowk Munir Shaheed Road for removing their encroachments voluntarily. Otherwise, as per the notices, the administration would demolish it. He stated that the development work on this dual carriageway had been kept pending due to encroachment for which PPP MNA Arif Aziz Sheikh had got a grant from federal government sanctioned. The assistant commissioner urged the notables, Anjuman-e-Tajran and local media persons to support the administration in this regard. Bahawalpur Peace Committee Chairman Dr Mian Siddique Asim, Zakat & Ushr Committee Chairman Shehzad Suhail, Bahawalpur PPP Secretary General Muhammad Ali Ahsan, Bahawalpur PML President Syed Salahuddin Ahmed Jeelani, journalists Chaudhry Muhammad Akram, Rana Saleem, Nasar Niazi and Mian Abdul Rauf pinpointed different encroachment sites in Ahmedpur East and Uch Sharif. Earlier, a group of shopkeepers chanted slogans against a leader of Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajran and alleged that the leader had got the criteria changed to save his shops in connivance with the local administration.
