Building codes implementation directed

ABBOTTABAD - The Cantonment Boards of Abbottabad, Havelian, Town Municipal Administrations (TMAs) and Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) have been directed for conducting a complete survey of all multi-storey commercial and residential buildings and ensure the implementation of urban and municipal laws in this regard.
The decision was taken in a meeting held here with District
Coordination Officer (DCO), Abbottabad, Syed Imtiaz Hussein Shah in the chair. Those who attended were included EDO health, Civil Defense Officer, Industrial Development Officer, representatives of Cantonment Board, TMO and Deputy Director, SIDB.   
The meeting reviewed the strict implementation of the building codes under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act 2012 and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Ordinance 1978 regarding survey of the multi-storey commercial and residential buildings and measures to prevent fire incidents.
The meeting, under Civil Defence Act, declared installation of fire extinguishing equipments compulsory in all industrial units, public, private sector educational institutions, guest houses, hotels, hostels, restaurants, shops and plazas and directed the civil defence officers for implementation of the act, issuance of notices to concerned trading centres and maintain close coordination with concerned municipal authorities and organizations.
The meeting also reviewed threats posing to human lives from old and dilapidated buildings and public sector organisations’ arrangements for prevention of fire incidents. The meeting also took certain decisions regarding businesses that are injurious for human lives and ensuring of practical measures for protection and medical treatment of factory workers and minors.
The meeting decided that that fire extinguishing equipments in all shops and commercial buildings would be installed with the cooperation of trade organizations. It was also decided that the employees of cantonment boards, TMAs and private schools will be imparted training on rescuing trapped people from the fire erupted buildings.
The meeting declared the pouring of LPG from cylinder to another in unregistered shops a high risk to human lives and hinted at initiating strict action against them under OGRA rules and regulations and if the situation requires section 144 could also be imposed on its illegal movement.
In case of any incident and guaranteeing of immediate medical treatment, the department of health was directed for provision of the details of ambulances and concerned staff.
