Govt not only corrupt, but also anti-poor: JI

LAHORE – Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Ameer Sirajul Haq said on Sunday that the government was not only corrupt but also anti-poor.
Addressing the Jamaat-e-Islami Labour Force at Mansoora, Haq, a former senior minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said the rulers were deliberately ignoring the problems of the workers and the PPP’s slogan of Roti, Kapra and Makan was merely a trap.
“Because of anti-worker policies of the government, they are being compelled to lead a life of utter misery. Rising prices of essential items and the utility bills have driven them to the point of starvation,” he maintained.
Haq criticised the increase in POL prices twice during a week and said this would bring a fresh wave of price hike. He alleged that the rulers were destroying the state institutions under a plan. “The eyes of the government should have been opened after the privatisation of the PTCL whose profits have declined and 40,000 employees have been terminated,” he added.
The Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Ameer said there was a fresh move to dismiss a large number of PTCL employees in the name of the VSS and this was condemnable. He also slated the move for a hasty referendum in the Pakistan Steel Mills and accused the NIRC of partiality in this respect.
