LOS ANGELES-Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander “fell in love” while filming their new movie The Light Between the Oceans.
The actors have been dating for two years and the X-Men star reveals their relationship began on set.
“We met on that job and have been seeing each other since,” he told U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America on Thursday.
As well as admiring the Oscar-winning The Danish Girl star’s beauty, Fassbender admits he was blown away by her acting skills.
“She’s such a fierce performer, she’s so brave, she’s not afraid to bring ugly personality traits to the forefront in character,” he continued. “I was really impressed by her immediately.”
Michael was forthcoming in the TV chat about the relationship, which took place just days after the 39-year-old told news show Entertainment Tonight he prefers to keep his personal life private, refusing to answer questions about his romance.
“I’m not going to talk about my private life with a total stranger, unless I feel like I need to. Why would I?” he said.
Vikander, however, sweetly deflected with a more diplomatic response, adding, “I think we’ve made a clear statement that we keep certain things just between us. It was very easy to unite, but that’s quite personal.”
The Light Between Oceans, adapted from the M.L. Stedman novel of the same name, follows the story of a lighthouse keeper and his wife who decide to raise a baby they rescue from a rowboat at sea. The stars portray husband and wife onscreen.
The movie is released in the US on Friday. On Thursday, the couple made its red carpet debut at the 73rd Venice Film Festival in Italy to promote the new film.
