LAHORE - The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will rally for the accountability of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leadership today in the capital – the stronghold of the ruling party.
The ruling party leadership has been under fire in the country since April 3 when the Panama Papers exposed the Sharif family’s assets abroad.
The PTI has been have been demanding PM Nawaz Sharif resign for impartial probe while the ruling party has been offering judicial commission over the matter.
PTI chief Imran Khan’s container, onto which he would kick-start the today’s demo titled ‘Ehtesab March’ (accountability rally), has reached Shahdara. The marchers will move to Chairing Cross in front of the Punjab Assembly.
Khan will address his supporters at Shahdara, Bhatti Gate, Nasir Bagh, High Court Chowk and Chairing Cross, said a party spokesperson.
PTI organising committee chief Ijaz Chaudhry yesterday told the media that all the arrangements have been finalised for the march. The opposition leaders would start their addresses at 9pm from the container, he added.
He said ex-PM Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, former Punjab CM Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, JI chief Sirajul Haq, PPP’s Latif Khosa and Manzoor Wattoo, PAT’s Basharat Jaspal other noted leaders will join in.
Other leaders, including Ch Sarwar and Aleem Khan, also reviewed the final arrangements in separate party meetings. PTI secretary general Jahangir Tareen alleged the PML-N is attempting to block the rally and harassing transporters to stop them from providing vehicles to the marchers.
Party media spokespersons Naeemul Haq and Samsam Bokhari told the media that the rally would be held in a peaceful manner. They added: “Imran Khan’s followers had organised such demos in Peshawar, Rawalpindi and Jhelum to create awareness among the masses against the corruption of rulers and influential.”
The PTI has set a target of gathering over 200,000 supporters for its rally in the provincial capital, it is learnt. However, the organisers said there are no fixed targets for the party lawmakers and former ticket holders for filling in Shahdara.
Welcome camps will be set up along the route of the march. All wings of the party have been assigned the tasks. Participation in the march from all union councils will be ensured by the MNAs, MPAs and former ticket holders, directed head of the organising committee Ijaz Chaudhary.
The PTI leaders rejected the reports about plan to march to Raiwind today. However it is learnt Imran Khan is likely to announce a protest plan for Raiwind after Eid.
