Organ donation a supreme sacrifice: Vohra

LAHORE - Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute and Ameer-ud-Din Medical College Prof Anjum Habib Vohra has said that organ donation was a supreme sacrifice that gives new life to dying patients. Addressing a training workshop arranged for the nurses assisting doctors during transplantation and recovery process of donors, he said that doctors, religious scholars, media and social organisations should persuade and sensitise general public about this noble cause. Prof Khalid Mahmood, Prof Tariq Ali Bungish, Dr Amir Latif and Dr Aezaz Ahmed delivered lectures to nurses from Lahore General Hospital, Sheikh Zaid Hospital and Punjab Institute of Cardiology. Dr Tariq Ali Bungish said that there were two types of human organ donation; living donation and donation after death. Both types of donations were not possible without the family permission of donors. Pakistan National Assembly has passed a bill in 2010 in this connection terming transplantation legitimate. Moreover Islam gives great importance to save human life and a number of authentic religious scholars belonging to Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Iran have given decrees in its favour.
