Islamabad - More than a dozen pupils were injured in a clash between two groups at Islamic International University Islamabad (IIUI) here on Monday, informed sources.
Sabzi Mandi police have booked some 30 students of a group (Islami Jamiat Talaba) on charges of assaulting the other students physically and assembling unlawfully in educational institution. However, no arrest was made by police after district administration came forward to defuse the situation.
A heavy contingent of police has also been deployed in and outside the varsity under command of SP Industrial Zone to maintain law and order situation.
According to sources, a student of LLB namely Zulqarnain lodged complaint with the Police Station Sabzi Mandi, stating that he was on his way to varsity’s admin section where some 100 students were taking out peace march. Suddenly, almost 30 students belonging to IJT armed with pistols, sticks, iron rods and knives appeared from somewhere and attacked the rally, he mentioned. He told police that attackers hit his head with an iron rod and injured him critically. The complainant added the IJT students had launched attack on peaceful participants of rally and their unlawful act was also recorded in mobile phones. Police have filed a case and began investigation.
SP Industrial Zone, when contacted, confirmed that a clash occurred between two student groups that left many injured. He said police registered case and started investigation. He said police had not made any arrest so far as the management of IIUI, the district administration and the both student groups were engaged in negotiations. He said heavy contingents of police have been deployed in and outside the varsity to maintain law and order.
